Urea is highly soluble in water. It has a solubility of 1080 g/L at 20°C, which means that at this temperature it will dissolve completely in water. However, the solubility of urea decreases with increasing temperature. At 60°C, the solubility of urea in water is about 370 g/L, and at 100°C it is about 20 g/L. This decrease in solubility with temperature is due to the fact that urea is more soluble in cold water than in hot water. Urea solubility is also affected by the pH of the solution. In acidic solutions, urea is protonated and becomes less soluble, while in basic solutions, it forms the urea ion and becomes more soluble.
